escargot: [es-kar-goh ] (n.) 1. an edible snail "Now that you know the correct pronunciation and the official definition, allow me to show you how to go about eating escargot. When done right, its so very good (especially when served in the south of France). Raise your glass to starting the night with snails!" Click on the image below to view the interactive publication

"I'm a fan of tacos - particularly for breakfast at Bite Cafe. With White Corn Tortilla, Scrambled Eggs, Pepper Jack Cheese, Black Beans, Pico de Gallo & Guacamole, you can't go wrong. And if you are anything like me, getting a side order of avocado seals the deal for a great start to the day. The only thing to make all this better would be a glass of wine. Champagne perhaps, as bubbles for breakfast is not only acceptable but advisable in my world. It's a good thing I always come to a BYOB restaurant prepared with bottle in hand. And that fact that they don't charge any corkage fees makes it even better. I'll be back here for sure... with a bottle or five." - Allie Merrick BITE CAFE | WWW.BITECAFECHICAGO.COM | 1039 N. "At the corner of Fullerton and Milwaukee, coffee at Gaslight Coffee Roasters is 'an experience'. From the sincere smiles & engaging eye contact offered at the counter to the beverages cultivated with care, Gaslight has an atmosphere that serves as a conduit for conversation and creativity for those who come to be a part of it. From the gilded goose mounted to the beam in front, to the crate chandeliers that hang from the ceiling and all other eclectic accents that adorn this coffee house, Gaslight Coffee Roasters has become a fast favorite for me." -Allie Merrick GASLIGHT COFFEE ROASTERS | WWW.GASLIGHTCOFFEEROASTERS.COM | 2385 N. "And so it is that when it comes to industry bars, Charlatan is one of my absolute favorites. Not only do they have a fabulous cocktail list, but they have a late night menu as well offering a variety of options from Black Pepper Rigatoni to Pig Ear Chicharrones. Back to the cocktails, two of my favorite are the 'Don't Look Down' (Altos Blanco Tequila, Yellow Chartreuse, Roasted Lemon, Maguey Sap & Cinnamon) and the 'Dehumanizer' (George Dickel Rye, Botran Reserva, Amaro Montenegro, Grapefruit & Bitters)." - Allie Merrick |

"Milk and honey on the other side (of the road). Hallelujah! With blood orange mimosas to prepare the palate, one is primed and ready for Milk & Honey Cafe's menu - where fresh and goodness meet. When I was in, I opted for the Roasted Vegetable Quinoa Salad that features feta, zucchini, eggplant, roasted red peppers, portabellas & balsamic oregano dressing. With fresh flowers on the table and light fixtures made from milk bottles, the decor was just as lovely as the dining experience." - Allie Merrick |

"With a menu that features headers including 'Game Sausages', 'Alligator' & 'Harvested and Gathered', carnivorous palates will salivate at the sight of the options presented by Frontier and Executive Chef - Brian Jupiter. Personally, I can vouch for the Gator Burger Sliders. What's not to absolutely love about ground alligator, pork, cilantro, red onion, cheddar, tomato, lettuce & remoulade?! If you are in the mood for excellent & eclectic meat options, I highly recommend stopping in at Frontier." - Allie Merrick |

"Breakfasts that incorporate avocado are awesome - especially when accompanied by a bowl of bacon. My favorite menu item at The Winchester has to be the Avocado Toast (w/grapefruit, chili & whole grain toast). And while a little goes a long way, making this a filling breakfast all on its own, I still hold firm to the belief that 'everything is better with bacon'. That said, a side order consisting of 'a bowl of bacon' is a must for me. An endless cup of house coffee makes this part of your complete breakfast." - Allie Merrick |
