NECTAR: A VENICE VIEW

While I often see the world through rose colored glasses, lately I've seen things with a Venice view. All things lovely, from Venice beach to Venice, Italy, the name speaks to a degree of warmth and culture that inspires creativity and exploration. And so it is in my creating and exploring, I enjoy doing so with a particular pair of amber mirrored lenses - Polarized Venice by Nectar.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS NIGHT

So, I have the great pleasure of spending epic evenings in elegant apparel with dear friends who rock it with singular style in 'little black dresses'. On this occasion, Little Black Dress Wines seemed to be befitting.

We coursed out our evenng a bottle at a time, in order of what matched the moment. An afternoon Chardonnay with animated acidity got us started, as we eased into what was to come, accepting the wines invitation of oak laced apple and vanilla steeped pear.

In anticipation of a 'entertaining' evening, the Rosé was next. With palates bathed in rose water nuances and playful dark strawberry taffy flavor, the night was just beginning. (For the record, rosé is the best 'getting-ready-wine that ever has been made.)

After slipping into dresses and decking ourselves out properly, the Merlot took centerstage with racy raspberry notes resounding in voluptuous curves on the palate.

It was the Cabernet that was poised and ready to follow with dark, cranberry tea nuances that teased and enticed with a body maintaining perfect posture.

Perfectly matched, cheers to four women and these four wines that made for or an epic evening of little black dresses and wines.

LESSON LEARNED: SKIPPING IN HEELS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA

And so it is. I should heed my own good advice. When out for drinks in the city by the bay, after a beverage or two, it is ill advised to skip down the steep sidewalks of San Francisco in heels. Lesson learned. I've spent the last two nights soaking my ankle with concentrated mineral bath salts. Eucalyptus, spearmint & menthol. Oh my. Therapeutic both physically & aromatically, the soaking has helped. And from this day forward, I vow to skip only in flats.

MORE THAN ONE WAY TO USE A BELT

Let's just get things straight. I'm a HUGE fan of coats and jackets. This particular article of clothing is perhaps why autumn is one of my favorite seasons. I love when the climate calls for coats. What I don't love are belts that come with coats. Don't get me wrong. Often they work very well for other - just not for me.

So, when I found this fabulous heather blue coat at a thrift shop a few blocks away, I tried it on and fell in love, opting to ignore the obligatory tether (i.e. belt) at the waist of the jacket.

Upon returning home, I stepped in front of the mirror with the jacket on. I loved everything about the coast with the exception of the one element I successfully ignored earlier. That damn belt. Curses!

Curses, indeed, are often blessings in disguise. With this more positive perspective embraced, a revelation then came. Why not reframe and reformat this belt of an accessory. It became clear that there was a higher purpose for this piece of material. I removed the belt from the straps on the coat and wrapped it around my neck, fashioning it as my most favorite accent - a tie.

Yes. There is more than one way to use a belt.
